DINO Perspective

Unedited Audio - Interview with David Iverson of Cowboy State Politics

Updated: 2 days ago

By Gabriel Green

In yet another demonstration that I am a Democrat In Name Only, apparently I'm the first democrat to ever be brave enough to appear on the Cowboy State Politics show. That's despite it being (reputedly) the most downloaded political podcast in the state...

...talk about failing to reach the state's constituents.

I suppose I should really thank David for surreptitiously recording me at the Sheridan County Democrats meeting, or this opportunity likely wouldn't have popped up. Thanks, David!

I thought the interview, which took place around 2:00pm on Saturday March 29 at the public library, was very fun! I look forward to being on his show again, if he'll have me. I learned some stuff, stood my ground on my principles, and hopefully made a compelling case for why we need some better options.

As a personal note it was my first time doing this sort of interview, and I've already learned a lot about how to 1) slow down, 2) give my host more room to speak, and 3) get to the point. Thanks to everyone who's provided me with great feedback!

I'll admit that I liked David; he reminded me of my favorite opponents from back in high school debate, who you knew were going to make you think. He's also got a great voice for radio, and since mama always told me I had a face for radio, I feel like that makes us kindred.

INTERVIEW RECORDING - FULL AUDIO

Listen to the interview here - for some reason we can't add it directly to this blog post

Note - forgive the audio quality, I was carrying my phone in a jacket pocket at times and it gets real crunchy. I also paused at the end of the interview before realizing I should keep recording, so there's a very small pause right towards the end.

Interview starts around 2:00 and ends around 30:00.

The audio from the actual interview is quite good and clear, so skip to 2:00 unless you really care hearing my phone crinkle in my pocket.

Time Stamps (loose approximation) & General Conversation Flow

  • 2:00-4:30 - Who is Gabriel Green?

  • 4:30 - 5:15 - Work History

  • 5:15 - 6:50 - Gabriel mixes up the words "Hallowed" and "Hollow" and discusses flags as symbols

  • 6:50 - 7:45 - "What is conservative?"

  • 7:45 - 8:45 - How does being a Democrat square with being "conservative?"

  • 8:45 – 9:45 – Discussion of "Loathing" out-of-state Conservatives & Democrat Meeting Audio

  • 9:45 – 10:30 – Anecdotal chat about conservatives laughing at poor kids

  • 10:30 - 11:30 - Legislative Training Discussion

  • 11:30 - 11:50 - FUN NOTE - David will publish full audio of his recording of me from the Democrat meeting

  • 11:50 - 13:25 - What's the Democrats plan? What's the DINO plan?

  • 13:25 - 15:00 - Social Issues & Mazlow's Heirarchy of Needs

  • 15:00-17:40 - Abortion Discussion & Being Pro-Family, not Pro-Division

  • 20:00 - 22:00 - LEARNING TIME - David teaches Gabriel about tax policies & government waste

    • Note, I say something really stupid about 37% being close to 50%. Shows how good at math I am...what I really meant is, "37% is closer to 50% than 0%" but that's not what I said, so I am owning my mistake.

  • 22:00 - 24:20 - Wyoming Legislative Session + Celebrating Game & Fish

  • 24:20 - 25:45 - Back to social issues... BONUS: postcard campaigns & Nobody misses a "Free lunch"

  • 25:45 - 27:00 - Gabriel praises the Freedom Caucus for things we agree on

  • 27:00 - 29:45 - David & Gabriel disagree about dirty campaign tactics & what exactly was in an amendment to a Wyoming bill.

    • Not gonna lie, this part got a little testy, so I am very grateful for David continuing to engage and for wrapping up before we got too into the weeds.

29:45 – 36:05 – Closing of interview & us walking out

Again, forgive horrible audio quality as my phone went back into my pocket. None of this really mattered besides at a personal level to Gabriel, who just likes talking with folks.

Topics covered while walking out

  • David's fight with the Sheridan Press over false reporting

  • Where to go to church?

  • Fun little talk about the book of Judges

  • Something I’d never thought of – Judges as freest period in history

  • Praise for David Iverson’s killer radio voice

  • I talk about getting fired for my opinion – wish y’all could hear this part

  • Loose discussion of why Democrats won’t go on David Iverson’s show (scaredy cats)

  • Agreement that we could use a lot more integrity in the country

  • Au Revoir

Gabriel Green Takeaway

After leaving, my biggest takeaway is that more DINOs need to be speaking to folks like David. Be prepared to stand firm on your beliefs, and open to the idea that he might have something to teach us too.

Only by working together, and striving towards agreement not disagreement, can we make America great again.

Side Note: Check out the group Braver Angels. I wish I'd thought to mention them during the pro-family discussion. They're a group that does a lot of good to try to bridge divides. Plus they're based on a James Madison quote, and I dig that.
